UnityPoint Health – Cedar Rapids has 3 inpatient Behavioral Health (BH) units – a child and adolescent unit, general adult unit and a geriatric unit.  We currently have a total of 40 beds open, although anticipating an expansion to 56 beds.

Patients that are entering through St. Luke’s emergency department require an assessment by a behavioral health provider to determine if they meet criteria for an inpatient admission or if their needs can be met in an outpatient or community setting. 

• This position will serve as a consult service to our St. Luke’s Emergency Department for behavioral health patients

• Hours 10AM-10PM, 3x12 hour shifts per week, including rotating weekends

• Provide Emergency Department coverage for behavioral health patients
• Ability to care for all ages, pediatrics to geriatrics
• Will work closely with our behavioral health coordinators to assess and disposition patients
• Evaluates, interprets and coordinates information to make decisions and recommendations regarding patient care
• Patient-focused, friendly and willing to collaborate in a team environment
• Excellent communication (written and verbal), analytical and problem-solving skills

• Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant; Prefer Psychiatry Mental Health NP
• Board Certified
• Experienced with the behavioral health patient population, either as a nurse or practitioner
• Hold an unrestricted medical license in the state of Iowa
• Hold current and unrestricted state and federal authority to prescribe and administer medications as necessary or appropriate to the Advanced Practitioners field of practice
• Eligible to work in the United States
