The Associate Medical Director will partner with the Medical Director to optimize patient flow across our healthcare system. Patient flow is defined as ensuring timely and appropriate transfers, maximizing capacity, and partnering with stakeholders to ensure timely and safe patient discharges from our hospitals. This position will strive to improve clinical outcomes and enhance communication between referring and receiving facilities. This position will work collaboratively with hospitalist teams, emergency departments, specialty services, and administrative leadership to develop and implement best practices for efficient patient transfer, placement, and throughput. This role will have a focus on partnering with stakeholders to ensure timely and safe patient discharges to maximize system bed capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with staff and leadership to build trust, support teamwork, and facilitate professional growth through evaluations, coaching, and mentoring
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director and system transfer center leadership on patient transfers, discharge workflows, physician scheduling, and medically appropriate placements
  • Analyze metrics and operational data to identify opportunities, support clinical strategies, and enhance patient satisfaction and capacity workflows
  • Participate in governance, action planning, and stakeholder communication to support clinical initiatives and continuous improvement
  • Promote best practices through research evaluation, strategic and open innovation, and tools that encourage creative thinking and process enhancement

Qualifications

  • MD or DO
  • Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine
  • Ability to obtain and hold an unrestricted license to practice in the state of Iowa and Illinois
  • Hold current and unrestricted state and federal authority to prescribe and administer medications as necessary or appropriate to the physician’s field of practice
  • Eligible to work in the United States (H1-B cap exempt)
