Community Memorial Hospital (Sumner)

UnityPoint Health – Community Memorial Hospital is a critical access hospital located in a rural setting in Northeast Iowa. The replacement facility was opened in January 2013 and serves as a primary employer in the community. The facility offers inpatient and skilled nursing hospital visits, 24-hour emergency care, lab and radiology, outpatient surgeries and specialty clinics, and therapy services. The hospital includes a medical clinic onsite in addition to a clinic neighboring community.

  • 25-bed hospital, including a 3-bed ED and Level 4 Trauma Center

Responsibilities

  • 3 ARNPs and 3 Physicians work in a collaborative care model
  • Physicians rotate one full week of 24-hour coverage (including ED)
  • Primary care with ED coverage every Friday (7 AM–5 PM) with Physician back up
  • Clinic volume: 10–15 patients per day
  • ED volume: 1,800–1,900 patients annually; average 4 ED visits per day
  • Opportunity to provide a broad range of family medicine procedures (joint injections, skin excisions, laceration repairs)

Qualifications

  • Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • 1-2 years of experience in Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine preferred
  • Hold an unrestricted medical license in the state of Iowa
  • Hold current and unrestricted state and federal authority to prescribe and administer medications as necessary or appropriate to the Advanced Practitioners field of practice
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Sumner, IA

Sumner is a small farming community in Northeast Iowa that is known for supporting local organizations and businesses. The community rallied to support the building of the replacement hospital in 2012 with contributions double of what was anticipated. The community is located 45 minutes away from shopping opportunities and recreational areas. Local amenities also include access to additional healthcare services and shopping opportunities.
